Install a Shared Bot in One Click
Shared bots skip the setup interview — review, click, and it's yours. Here's how to do it safely.
Copying prompts works. But when someone has already tuned a bot — the role, the routines, the file layout, the report format — you can skip the line: shared bots install in one click.
What a shared bot actually is
A package containing the bot’s instructions and behavior, published by its builder with an official install link (x.ai/bot/...). When you open the link, Grok Bot shows you what will be added and asks you to confirm. Nothing runs on your account until you do.
The safe install routine
Treat it like installing an app from a stranger:
- Read what it does. Every entry in our bots directory carries a description, the sharer’s handle, and a link to the original post. Sixty seconds of reading beats weeks of weird behavior.
- Check the permissions it implies. A “brief me every morning” bot wants a schedule and maybe your inbox. A “cancel my subscriptions” bot wants a lot more. Add only what you’d defend out loud.
- Open the install link and let Grok Bot show you the confirmation — that screen is your last checkpoint.
- Run it once, supervised. Watch the first scheduled run before you trust the quiet ones.
- Keep the escape hatch. Every bot can be edited or removed in settings. Knowing where that switch is before you need it is the whole game.
After install: it’s your bot now
The shared instructions are a starting point, not a contract. Good first edits:
- Change the schedule and report destination to match your day.
- Add a line about your language and timezone.
- Trim anything that reports things you don’t care about — every unnecessary line costs attention forever.

- Our bots directory — curated, with summaries in English and Chinese and credit to each sharer.
- The original posts on X — builders usually demo the bot’s output, which tells you more than any description.
- Your own notes — whenever a prompt of yours stabilizes, package it. The directory exists because people did.
One rule of thumb closes this out: a shared bot is borrowed judgment. Borrow widely, but keep the veto.
